Installation Instructions

Before Installing

Shinny & Co. rink markings are made to be installed on ice—not the rink liner. So you need a base layer of ice that's flat and even. If the ice has bumps or imperfections where the material will be laid down, shave the area smooth with a scraper or straight-edge shovel.

Using scissors, cut out and trim the creases, dots, lines, and logo.

Referring to the diagrams below, measure your rink to determine where to place each line and graphic. Indicate the center of each location with a felt marker dot. Then lay the material in place, ensuring the ice underneath is smooth and even.

Tools

  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape
  • Felt marker
  • 5mm (thin) paint roller
  • Bucket of warm water
  • Hose

When you install

For optimal efficiency, we recommend installing the rink graphics in the following order:

WARMUP Kit

  • Crease
  •
Blue line and logo
  • Face-off dots

GAME Kit

  • Center-ice logo

  • Red line
  • Creases
  • Face-off dots

 ALL STAR Kit

  • Center-Ice circle

  • Red line
  • Creases
  • Goal lines
  • Blue lines
  • Face-off dots

DO NOT FLOOD UNTIL YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE FOLLOWING STEPS. FLOODING TOO SOON MAY CAUSE THE MATERIAL TO FLOAT.

  • Start with the first marking, following the order recommended above for your kit. Move the marking aside, dip your clean paint roller in the bucket of warm water, and apply a thin layer to the area the marking will go on. Set the marking back in place.
NOTE: Measure the depth of your net(s) for proper crease placement.
  • Dip your roller again and roll over the marking from the center out, at least 3 inches past the edges. Force out any water or air pockets between the mesh and the ice below, so the marking lies flat.
  • Allow to freeze.

  • Once frozen, apply a thin mist of water over the marking, and let it freeze too.
  • Repeat steps 1-4 for each additional marking in the order recommended above for your kit.
  • Flood only once all the markings are firmly set in the ice. We recommend building your ice in 1/4 - 1/2 inch layers, until you have 1 to 3 inches above the markings.  (Ideal thickness will vary with climate and location.)
